Just yesterday, we published a blog: The Green Tip M855 Ammo
It is a great day for the tens of thousands of Americans who let BATFE know that they opposed the Green Tip ban.
Earlier today, BATFE issued a statement headed “Notice to those Commenting on the Armor Piercing Ammunition Exemption Framework.”
In light of the 80,000 comments from the public, BATFE has chosen to listen. The statement, linked above, notes that “the vast majority of the comments received to date are critical of the framework, and include issues that deserve further study. Accordingly, ATF will not at this time seek to issue a final framework.”
So for now, the Green Tip is safe. This is not a total hands off outcome as the BATFE has noted that it will look at all of the comments and then reevaluate its position. This may or may not lead to a later ban or the beginnings of a new proposal with a comment period. But for now, it seems that the move to ban has at least slowed down.
We offer tremendous congratulations and thanks to our friends at Trop Gun Shop who headed the “We Will Not Back Down #savegreentip” campaign (according to their website 13,122 letters were sent through their efforts), as well as anybody else who contributed with their time, efforts or comments to BATFE.
